Antwerp
Antwerp is where I lived and studied at the University of Antwerp, and it quickly became my home away from home. The city is full of charm, surprises, and amazing food, and it’s a place I return to again and again.
To Do
Cathedral of Our Lady — Stunning inside and out, and home to several Rubens masterpieces.
Grote Markt — Classic Antwerp: gabled buildings, cafés, and postcard-perfect views.
Antwerp Central Station — Truly one of the most beautiful train stations in the world; even if you’re not traveling, go inside.
Stroll through the Diamond District — Even if you’re not shopping, it’s cool to see the heart of the trade.
Walk along the harbor — A peaceful way to end the day, especially around sunset.
The Hand Statue (Het Handje) – Discover the legend of the giant Druon Antigoon who cut off the hands of those who refused to pay a toll. Small, iconic, and perfect for photos.
MAS Building – Go to the top for sweeping views of the city and the waterfront.
Ferris Wheel & Waterfront – Enjoy a ride or a stroll along the river for beautiful city views.
Saturday Market – Browse local goods, fresh produce, and unique finds.
The Meir – Wander Antwerp’s main shopping street, filled with boutiques and big-name stores.
Chinatown – Cozy Chinese restaurants where I loved having orange chicken and tea every Wednesday.
To Eat & Drink
Frites Atelier — Some of the best fries you’ll ever have.
Seef Beer — A must-try local beer with history behind it — crisp, light, and very “Antwerp.”
Oliver’s Sandwiches — Perfect for a quick, delicious lunch (locals love this spot). Unique flavor combos!
The Chocolate Line — Gourmet, artistic, and absolutely decadent chocolates. It feels like a luxury chocolate gallery.
Café culture — Antwerp is full of stylish little cafés; try a Belgian coffee and people-watch.
